Overview
Why this matters on board.
Shipboard fires are categorically different from shore-side fires: confined spaces, no fire brigade for hours or days, fuel and refrigerant gases adding complexity, and the same crew running the engine room expected to fight the fire. SOLAS Chapter II-2 mandates two complete fireman's outfits on every vessel for exactly this reason.
SurviMed supplies the full kit — protective clothing, helmet, gloves, boots, fire axe, safety lamp and lifeline — to SOLAS Chapter II-2 specification. Self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and EEBD escape sets are available as add-ons, with cylinder refill and annual face-fit testing in our worldwide service network.
Each outfit is supplied with a numbered inspection card. Annual inspection includes lifeline load test, helmet shock-pad replacement, glove and boot integrity check, and SCBA cylinder hydrostatic record verification.

FAQ
What buyers ask about Fireman's Outfit.
Got a question we haven't covered? Email sales@survimed.com and we'll come back within one working day.
How many fireman's outfits does SOLAS require?
SOLAS Chapter II-2, Regulation 10 requires a minimum of two complete fireman's outfits on every cargo vessel of 500 GT and above. Tankers, passenger ships and chemical carriers carry additional sets — exact numbers depend on tonnage and cargo. We size the supply to your vessel's certificate.
Are SCBA cylinders hydrostatically tested?
Yes — SCBA cylinders require periodic hydrostatic testing (typically every 5 years for steel, 3 years for composite, but country-dependent). SurviMed tracks the cycle and arranges testing through our network.
How often does the kit need inspection?
Annual on-board inspection is standard, plus pre-departure visual checks. SurviMed includes the annual on a service contract; we either visit the vessel in port or audit the inspection remotely with the responsible officer.
Are EEBDs (Emergency Escape Breathing Devices) the same as SCBA?
No. EEBDs are short-duration (typically 10–15 minute) escape sets carried in accommodation and machinery spaces for personnel to escape a smoke-filled compartment. SCBAs are full-duration breathing apparatus for the fire team. SOLAS requires both; we supply both.
