Immersion Suits

Hours of survival in cold water.

Insulated immersion suits tested for the North Sea and Arctic operations — single-piece donning under 2 minutes.

Specifications

  • Cold-water rated (MED-B)
  • Quick-don design — under 2 minutes
  • Neoprene face / wrist / ankle seals
  • Fleet servicing & responsible end-of-life

Overview

Why this matters on board.

In water below 10 °C, survival without insulation is measured in minutes, not hours. Cold-water shock can kill in the first three minutes; cold incapacitation follows within twenty. A properly-donned immersion suit changes that calculation by an order of magnitude.

SurviMed supplies MED-B certified immersion suits with insulated linings tested for North Sea and Arctic operations, neoprene seals at face, wrists and ankles, and a single-piece design that a competent crew member can don in under two minutes. Sizes XS through XXL are stocked, with oversize options for crew using PFDs underneath.

Annual service includes seal integrity, zip lubrication, light battery and inflatable life-bag (if fitted) inspection. Suits past life-of-service are taken back for responsible recycling — we do not let them re-enter the secondary market.

Applications

Where Immersion Suits lives on board.

Typical use cases and stowage points across maritime and offshore operations.

  • Cold-water region operations (latitude > 50°)
  • Offshore wind transit (North Sea, Baltic)
  • Fishing fleet — Atlantic, North Pacific
  • Oil & gas platform abandonment muster
  • Polar passenger expedition vessels

FAQ

What buyers ask about Immersion Suits.

Got a question we haven't covered? Email sales@survimed.com and we'll come back within one working day.

  • When are immersion suits required?

SOLAS Chapter III requires an immersion suit for every person on board for vessels operating outside warm-water zones (broadly, north of 30°N latitude in the North Atlantic and similar zones elsewhere). Specific requirements vary by flag and route — we map this for you.

  • What's the difference between an immersion suit and a survival suit?

Terminology varies, but in regulatory terms a 'survival suit' (or TPA) is uninsulated and limited to short-term thermal protection in temperate water. An 'immersion suit' is insulated for prolonged cold-water immersion. SurviMed primarily supplies immersion suits.

  • How long is an immersion suit good for?

Service life is typically 10 years subject to passing annual inspection. Seals, zips and battery are the limiting factors — we replace consumables in service and tell you when a suit reaches end-of-life.

  • Are suits available in custom sizes?

Yes. We stock standard XS–XXL but can supply oversize (3XL+) for crew using under-suits or PFDs, and bespoke sizing on request. Specify when ordering.
